Rebound appears on instants and sorceries. When a spell that you cast from your hand with Rebound resolves, instead of going to the graveyard, it gets exiled. At the beginning of your next upkeep, you then may cast that spell without paying its mana cost and ignoring timing restrictions for sorceries. Cards with specific timing restrictions (like Savage Beating, which can get Rebounded thanks to cards like Cast Through Time), cannot be cast outside of those restrictions, and so do not work great with Rebound.
So yeah, you get to cast the same spell twice, with the second time on a slight delay. Neat! Some notes:
- The spell does need to resolve, if it gets countered, it just goes to the graveyard as usual.
- The spell does need to be cast from your hand, if it gets cast from anywhere else (like with Cascade, for example), Rebound won’t trigger, and so to the graveyard with the spell.
- It doesn’t matter how you cast it from your hand or what you pay for it, but Rebound will still work.
- If you choose not to or can’t cast the card from exile, it will just stay in exile. Rebound only triggers once, though, so you only get the one chance to cast the card from exile.
- Lastly, multiple instances of Rebound do not stack.
Surprisingly, people like casting their spells more than once, and so Rebound has appeared more than once, and is likely to come back again sometime. This mechanic is quite good, and when a card with it breaks through into Constructed play, like Ephemerate, it makes a big impact.
