Local Game Show 2: Meet the Contestants

Card KingdomEvents, Giveaway

Come on down and join us for the return of Local Game Show!

On October 7th, our Magic-themed game show returns with a whole new slate of contestants. Today, we’d like to introduce our special guests, as well as the games they’ll be competing in, and let you know how YOU can win during the broadcast!

Our Contestants

MTGNerdGirl

First up, we have Card Kingdom affiliate Brittany Hamilton, known to her fans on Twitch as MTGNerdGirl! Brittany is a longtime Magic player and Limited specialist, and she’s competed in Magic’s prestigious Mythic Invitational earlier this year. She’s also a full-time streamer, so you know she’s good at thinking on her feet.

Gavin Verhey

Put your hands together for Local Game Show’s first-ever #WotCStaff contestant, Gavin Verhey! Gavin is a Senior Designer at Wizards of the Coast, where he currently leads the design of supplemental products like Commander sets and Battlebond. He also possesses a wealth of arcane Magic knowledge, so he’ll be the player to beat in the trivia portion.

Mike Robles

Our next contestant is Seattle local and nerd-of-all-trades Mike Robles! Mike is a former Community Manager for Wizards, and Magic remains one of his greatest passions in life. In addition to his Magic knowledge, Mike brings years of improv comedy experience to the table, so he’ll be the player to watch in our interactive games.

Chris VanMeter

Rounding out our quartet is our own Chris VanMeter! CVM is a former professional Magic player and applies his skills to designing custom products for Card Kingdom. His intimate knowledge of Magic’s tournament rules and history will serve him well on Local Game Show.

The Games

Now that we’ve met our contestants, let’s talk about the games they’ll be playing!

Mark My Words

How well do you know Magic’s head designer? In this brand-new game, our contestants will be given a choice of four quotes and will have to guess which one isn’t Mark Rosewater’s words!

Draw Go

This game will test our contestants’ knowledge of Magic art. We’ve asked members of the Magic community to draw their own renditions of Magic card art, and our contestants will have to guess the cards they chose. There’s only one catch – our community members can only use MS Paint to create their Magic masterpieces!

Commander Damage

“20 Questions,” Magic-style! We’ve chosen a legendary creature, and our contestants can ask 21 yes-or-no questions to figure out who it is. The contestant who guesses correctly wins the round; everyone else takes Commander Damage!

Debatewatch

We’ll be closing out the night with our improv game, Debatewatch! Our hosts will provide our contestants with a question, such as “Which Planeswalker would make the worst roommate?” Our contestants will each have 60 seconds each to make an argument for their chosen Planeswalker, and 30 seconds for a rebuttal.

Trivia

Throughout the night, we’ll also be asking our contestants a slew of trivia questions, covering Magic history, gameplay, and lore. Tune in and test your knowledge along with them!

Prizes!

Of course, it wouldn’t be a game show without fabulous prizes – and they’re all for you, our audience! Read on to see how YOU can win booster boxes and limited-edition Card Kingdom swag.
