Murders at Karlov Manor Early Look

Card KingdomStandard

Murders at Karlov Manor brings us back the Ravnica, one of the most popular and impactful Magic planes of all time. Card Kingdom’s Presale of the set starts this Friday, January 12th, so ahead of that we’re going to tell you everything we know about the mysterious set!

The Story

A string of high-profile murders across Ravnica bring together an unlikely cast of characters to solve the crimes! Alquist Proft, a master detective from the Ravnican Agency of Magicological Investigations, takes the lead, with Kaya and Kellan providing some much-needed backup as the body count rises.

There’s no shortage of suspects, with characters new and old filling the roles of potential perpetrators. But are these ghastly deaths simply the work of serial killer, of is something even more sinister afoot? Signs point to a far grander conspiracy…but to what end? And who is pulling the strings?

The Set

Murders at Karlov Manor is the first set to feature Play Boosters, which essentially combine Draft and Set Boosters into a single product. Containing 14 cards (plus a token, art, ad, or helper card), up to which of four could possibly be rares or mythics, Play Boosters streamline the available options for players and collectors alike.

Speaking of Collectors, Collector Boosters are also available for set, featuring some nifty exclusives that we’ll cover in the next section:

Bundles and Prerelease packs make a return as well.

And last but certainly not least, we’ll have four Commander decks coming with the set: the Red-Green-White Deadly Disguise, the Blue-Black Revenant Recon, the Green-White-Blue Deep Clue Sea, and Red-White Blame Game

Booster Fun and Promos

So what can be found inside all those boosters and products? Outside of just a bunch of nifty cards (including Lightning Helix’s return to Standard), we have two different Showcase treatments – first, the Magnified treatments highlight key moments from the story:

Next, we have Dossier treatments on some of the various characters involved with the case:

Ravnica means that we’ll be dealing with the workings of the guilds, and the guild leaders get their own treatment – the Ravnica City style we’ve seen before:

Full art lands return, spotlighting the architecture of the city-plane:

Special Guests also make a return, featuring non-Standard-legal cards printed with a Ravnican twist in their art:

Collector Boosters feature two exclusive treatments as well – foil Dossier showcase cards have a special “Invisible Ink” treatment, letting you view Proft’s own notes on the case.

And the Guild leaders with the Ravnican City treatments will also have a serialized variant, with each having 250 numbered cards (in English only) hiding in Collector Boosters.

As for Promos, we don’t have a lot of information yet, but we do know what the Buy-a-Box promo will be:

Get a Clue (or Cluedo, Depending on Where You Are)

With Magic dipping into the murder mystery genre, what better time for a crossover with one of the most venerable board games of all-time, Clue! Or Cluedo, as it’s known in some countries (hi, non-US readers!).

Ravnica: Clue Edition will feature cards new and old, fully compatible with Magic as a whole, but featuring a self-contained experience that can be fully played with just the contents of the box itself!

Each copy of the game will also come with a special box topper promo: one of the shock lands!

More details about this Magic variant will be released on January 16th, so stay tuned!

End Step

There’s a lot to look forward to in this murderous set! Murders at Karlov Manor doesn’t release until February 9th, but Card Kingdom’s Presale will be available starting this Friday, January 12th! We’ll have all Sealed products available at the start, with Singles getting added as Previews are officially shared. Happy sleuthing!
