MagicCon Las Vegas happened this past weekend, and with it came a presentation from Wizards of the Coast breaking down what we have to look forward to from Magic in 2025. We’ve gathered that information here for you – so without further ado, prepare for THE FUTURE!
Ahem.
Anyway, the future starts with a look to the past:
Innistrad Remastered – 1/24/25
Like Dominaria Remastered and Ravnica Remastered before it, Innistrad Remastered takes cards from all the sets from the Gothic horror-inspired plane to create a curated Limited experience and get more Constructed staples into circulation.
Innistrad Remastered also brings Headliner cards into Magic, starting with a welcome reprint of Edgar Markov:
Headliner cards take a single card from each set, give it all the showcase and foil treatments available in the set, given several different art styles across those treatments, and giving us a serialized version of that card in the set.
The non-Standard-legal set (except where reprints overlap with currently-in-Standard cards) hits early in 2025 near the end of January. And hot on its heels coming something new:
Aetherdrift – 2/14/25
The first Standard-Legal set of the year speeds onto the scene with Aetherdrift, an Omenpath-enabled death race that spans three different planes. Chandra Nalaar takes the lead, racing to help Nissa Revane and win the Aetherspark, alongside a a swath of other racers, with each faction represented by a different color pair. Releasing on February 14th, 2025, get ready for some heart-pounding thrills in Aetherdrift!
Tarkir: Dragonstorm – 4/11/25
Both Sarkhan Vol, (somehow) Ugin, and the clans are back in Tarkir: Dragonstorm! Titular Dragonstorms have opened across Tarkir, spewing forth dragons across the plane – and with the Omenpaths scattered around, the threat extends well beyond Tarkir itself. Dropping on April 11th, 2025, fight back against the Dragonstorm!
Magic: The Gathering | Final Fantasy – 6/13/25
The next Universes Beyond booster set comes to Magic on June 13, 2025, with Magic: The Gathering | Final Fantasy. Drawing on the 16 mainline games in the series, expect to see loads of familiar characters, locations, events, monsters, and more!
Final Fantasy also brings a major change to Magic: starting with this set, all Universes Beyond booster sets moving forward will be Standard-legal! This is a major shift, making things far easier to understand for newer players and affecting how these sets are designed and scheduled. Note that this only applies to booster sets; Commander Decks and Secret Lair drops will still be excluded from Standard play.
Edge of Eternities – 8/1/25
August 2025 brings us to the borders of a place that has technically existed for the entire history of Magic, but that we’ve never seen directly. Edge of Eternities, fittingly, is a foray into the hitherto unexplored Sothera system on the edge of the Blind Eternities – the dimension between planes that is home of the Eldrazi. With the return of Tezzeret and a foray into what Wizards is calling Science Fantasy, who knows what wonders wait on the edge of space?
Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man – TBA
After a trip to the edge of the multiverse, we visit an entirely different multiverse with a Universes Beyond Booster set – Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man. We don’t have a ton of details, but we do know that the set will pull from across the Spiderverse, so prepare for characters from more than just the main 616 Marvel Universe!
Unknown Universes Beyond – TBA
2025 rounds out with one final set…that we don’t know much about. We do know that it will be another Universes Beyond booster set, but that’s it. Any guesses?
